Everything starts with the frame (see sextant frame). After the engraving of the arc and the painting, all further components will be mounted.
In total our sextants consist of more than 100 individual parts. The exact number varies depending on the model. Apart from several screws and springs, which are mostly self-made, these are the most important elements of a sextant:
- Frame with arc
- Telescope
- Index and horizon mirror
- Index and horizon shadow glasses
- Handle
- Drum with minute scale (vernier)
- Clamp
- Alhidade / Index arm
There are also additional components that offer advantages for certain observations. However, these are not absolutely necessary.
All components are assembled and adjusted by hand. After a final inspection of the sextant, a quality certificate will be issued.
