The star astigmatizing lens is already mounted on the POLARIS sextant and can be added as an accessory to our other sextant models (except CPSailing). It is located behind the shade glasses in index direction. The star astigmatizing lens can be used with all horizon mirrors. The star astigmatizing lens cannot be used together with the Schüler double prism.
As the name reveals, the lens spreads the light of a star or planet to a horizontal line.
This provides two advantages for star and planet observations:
- It simplifies observation because a horizontal line can be brought onto the horizon more easily.
- An inclination of the sextant can be clearly recognised.
