For the first steps in celestial navigation, the following equipment is required in addition to a sextant:
Necessary for calculation and determination of position:
- Protractor triangles / Clear triangle
- Universal plotting sheets
- Chart dividers / One-hand dividers
- Sight reduction tables (HO229 or HO249)
- Textbook
- Chronograph / stopwatch or chronograph for our sextants
Optional:
- Star finder (STAR FINDER or STAR GLOBE).
- Practice Bubble Horizon
- Navigation computer
- A nice book about the history of the sextant (e.g. Sextant: A Voyage Guided by the Stars and the Men Who Mapped the World’s Oceans)
